Britain is an island. Around Britain, there is the sea. Between Britain and Gaul, the name of the sea is the « English Channel ». Far from Britain, in Italy, roman generals want to conquer this island.
Caius Julius Cesar is a roman dictator. He wants to conquer England in 54 BC. He is 46 years old. The conquest of England is a pretext : Cesar wants the glory of victory and doesn’t want to go back to Rome.
He goes through the Channel with 5 legions. He goes up to the River Thames, near Londinium. But he must go back down to Gaul.
In AD 43, the emperor Claudius also wants to conquer England. He is 53 years old. The soldiers want  to plunder silver and booty. In AD 47, the conquest of south England is finished. But not north England and Wales : the inhabitants don’t want to be Romans.
The emperor Hadrian was born in AD 76 in Spain. In 122 he wants to make a wall between England and Scotland far north : Scotland is not roman but Wales and England are roman. Wales and England want protection behind the wall. The Scotland army is blocked in front of the wall.
